Palaces, churches, culture and all the wonders of the historic centre.
The Stelvio Hotel is located in Tirano, a small town in Valtellina surrounded by mountains and characteristic terraced vineyards that extend over the surrounding hills, creating a unique landscape, an ideal place to enjoy wine tasting and trekking among the vineyards. The landscape, with views of the Alps, enjoys a mild climate in summer, ideal for refreshing walks.
Tirano has a charming historic centre. Here you can admire architectural treasures such as the 17th-century Palazzo Salis, with its frescoed rooms, Palazzo Merizzi, and the important Sanctuary of the Madonna. The latter is considered the most important religious monument in Valtellina, a Renaissance masterpiece built following a miraculous apparition in 1504. Also not to be missed is the thousand-year-old Church of Santa Perpetua, located in a panoramic position. Local history is preserved in the Tiranese Ethnographic Museum and in the remains of the Sforza walls.
Tirano is renowned for being the starting point of the Bernina Express. This scenic connection to Switzerland (Engadine, St Moritz) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is also a popular destination for cycling, with trails suitable for both families and more experienced cyclists, and direct access to the Sentiero Valtellina, which leads to Lake Como.
